Lesson 8 Don’t Hide Your Light Under A Bushel
Google, the guys who make the rules that drive traffic to attorney’s websites, has become heavily influenced by client reviews.
People, in general, have become utterly disillusioned with marketing messages and now rely far more on reviews in their decision-making process.
Oddly, many firms are quite willing to list all their awards and community service, and education but shy away from client reviews.
The near manic push for better and better reviews, driving traffic, and influencing engagement decisions, has to lead to something quite remarkable.
In Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich”, the fourth tenet of becoming successful is
Specialized knowledge: Gain experience and continue learning
The ease that reviews are left, the impact that genuine client reviews have on so many processes have created an appropriate environment where the best firms know how to harvest and syndicate their reviews and get the most business.
Google’s algorithm shift to encourage and rely on reviews has created an environment where the best practitioners are more likely to rise to the top over the firms that hire the best marketers. No marketer can replace the impact of a great client review. Outstanding client reviews come from exceptional service.
Encourage reviews, have a system to capture them. Let your clients know how much you appreciate their thoughts.
Finally, check with your State Bar; there are some pretty backward views on reviews in some associations. Some are fine with asking for reviews, as long as there is no quid pro quo. Some allow you to give gifts and like-kind services. Some don’t like your response to reviews as it might break client-attorney confidentiality. It is your license to practice, be sure to follow your state guidelines as you put the tenets of this lesson into practice.
