Lesson 4 Social Media Your Free Soap Box

Lesson 4, Social Media your Free Soap Box

I want you to look at social media fundamentally differently than you may have in the past.

I run that gamut of reactions to social media. For example, I got two responses in a meeting from different partners at the same firm.

“It’s a total waste of time. I don’t believe in it, and it’s stupid!”

“What do you mean you aren’t recommending a unique strategy for every separate social media channel.”

We’re starting up in social media. The most important thing is consistency. Sometimes it is good enough just to show up.

• If your social media accounts are active, it will positively impact your search engine rank. So be there and don’t argue. It works.
• If someone comes to your social media account, and the last post was two years ago celebrating an assistant’s birthday – your visitor will get the immediate impression that you are closed.
• It does not matter if you like social media or not, a high percentage of your potential clients are there, and if they check you out, they should find you.
• You have no idea what social media your potential clients are on, so be on all of them.
• Use automation to make it easy.

Later, when your marketing engine runs full steam and has staff that manages your social media, it is time to create custom messages for each channel. Later, when your marketing engine is firing on all cylinders, it is time to craft goals and strategies to optimize your social media presence. Again, I highly recommend a far more sophisticated Social Media strategy than what I am presenting here. So today, let’s get the basics done and start being consistent.

The other "never discussed" reason to be on all the social media is to have more content available to Google to list.

If someone searches for your firm name, do you want your firm name on top of the search engine results page (SERP), and then 9 of your competitors, or would you prefer your website on top, and your Twitter next, and LinkedIn, and Avvo, and Chamber of Commerce listing, squeezing out your competition from the front page?  Imagine, you can do that, with NO MORE EFFORT than making a single simple blog post, and filling out all the directories.

After all, we have a lot of work to do in these 20 works for you to Be The 20!
